Two lifeboats were called out to rescue a motorboat after it suffered engine problems north of Bardsey Sound.
Two people were on board the 10m vessel, which was en-route from Scotland to Cardiff, when it got into difficulty on Saturday evening.
The boat, which had only just been purchased, had an anchor down but it was not holding and they were drifting at around 3 knots.
The RNLI at Abersoch sent out its inshore lifeboat at 6.10pm and arrived nearly half an hour later, before the all-weather lifeboat from Pwllheli was called out to assist.
Because of concerns that the drifting motorboat could hit the rocks, it was decided to tow the vessel to Pwllheli Marina. The all-weather lifeboat took over the tow at Cilan, eventually completing the journey at around 11pm.
Both of the motorboat's occupants were said to be well equipped with lifejackets, flares and communication equipment.
A spokesperson for Abersoch RNLI said: "The sailing conditions at Bardsey Sound can prove challenging. There are strong tidal currents, and it is important to ensure that you plan your passage through the Sound carefully."
"Always have a means of calling for help such as a VHF radio as mobile phone signal is not always guaranteed."
