Two people were rescued after a fishing boat broke down within Holyhead harbour.

The RNLi's inshore lifeboat had completed a regular training session on Wednesday night when the crew was called out by the Coastguard at around 10pm.

The fishing boat had suffere engine problems - and with no other vessels in the area at the time, the lifeboat was asked to help it prevent an obstruction and any further difficulty.

The four-man crew in the inshore lifeboat launched within a few minutes and a two was quickly established to bring the fishing back back to the slipway at Newry beach.

A spokesperson for RNLI Holyhead said conditions were calm but a sea fret and nightfall nearby meant the fishing boat could have got in to further trouble had she been left unassisted.

Helm Sion Owens said: "Both sailors were found to be safe and well, and were well-equipped. With failing light, they did the correct thing in calling for assistance, and we were able to reach the scene quickly and bring both sailors and their vessel to safety."
