A jury has been discharged after it failed to reach a verdict in the case of a man accused of rape during the 2023 National Eisteddfod at Boduan.

Emlyn Jones of Capel Curig was accused of sexually assaulting a woman he had met on the night of the Bwncath concert at the festival.

The 27 year-old denied four charges of rape, deliberate strangulation, assault by penetration and sexual assault.

Following a four-day trial at Caernarfon, the jury retired to consider their verdict on Thursday afternoon for just under an hour.

After nearly four years of deliberations on Friday, Judge Nicola Jones told the six men and six women that she would accept a majority verdict.

But two-and-a-half hours later, the jury declared it would be unable to reach a verdict even if they were given more time to do so.

Prosecutors now have seven days to decide whether to seek a fresh prosecution against Mr Jones, who was released on bail.
