Aldi has pledged to create 40 jobs if plans for a new supermarket in Menai Bridge are given the go ahead.

The discount supermarket chain says it would invest over £7 million into the local economy as part of its proposals for a new store opposite the Four Crosses Business Park, west of Ffordd Penymynydd.

A public consultation is being held until next month.

Aldi, which already has stores in Holyhead and Llangefni, says opening a third Anglesey supermarket "would significantly improve the local retail offer, which is currently limited to smaller, more expensive stores that are not able to meet the local population’s weekly shopping needs."

They add it would "offer easy access to a low-cost, high-quality retailer for residents in Menai Bridge, along with creating 40 new, full-time equivalent jobs paid at an industry leading rate."

The Menai Bridge store would also include 115 car parking spaces - including accessible and parent & child spaces - as well as twelve EV (electric vehicle) charging points with the potential of adding more in the future.

Last year, Aldi announced it had scrapped plans for another store in Amlwch, despite the town being added to a priority list following a local campaign.

The public consultation for the Menai Bridge store continues until Thursday 16th April, before a planning application is submitted to Anglesey Council.
