A long-serving volunteer with the RNLI in Beaumaris recently attended a Buckingham Palace garden party.
Gareth Parry was guest of the King and Queen to commenorate his 54 years of volunteering with the lifeboat charity.
He originally served as a crewman and emergency mechanic on the former all-weather lifeboat which was withdrawn from service in 1991.
He was a helm on the Blue Peter II inshore lifeboats, being one of the first RNLI lifeboatmen to receive a gold Blue Peter badge from the BBC children's TV programme.
Gareth, who is currently a launching authority based at Beaumaris lifeboat station, was accompanied by his son Tomos, who works in London as a Michelin star chef. His daughter Sioned, an art professional, also lives in the city.
During his long career with RNLI, Gareth has received two bravery awards and has been a standardbearer for over 40 years, including numerous occasions at Remembrance Day services in Cardiff, representing Welsh stations.
One of his proudest memories is carrying the Queen Mother’s Lifeboat Standard in a Remembrance Day service at London's Royal Albert Hall in front of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
